(WTVO) — If you are one of many who cannot make it out to the polls to vote on November 5th this year, here is what you need to know to vote by mail.
A person can apply for a mail-in ballot up until October 31st if you are registered to vote.
A person who is not registered before October 20th will not be able to receive a ballot by mail.
To check if you are registered, visit the Illinois State Board of Elections website.
If you are interested in voting by mail permanently, you can sign up to have a ballot sent to your home address for every election.
You must return the application to your county clerk in the election jurisdiction where you are registered to vote.
Illinoisans must submit their ballots, signed, by November 5th, and received within 14 days of that date to be counted in the election.
Any people in the military and their spouses who are overseas can also vote by mail using this application.
If you end up changing your mind, you can still vote in person by bringing your ballot to the election site and giving it to the election judge.
