When your in love nothing else matters

“Nothing Else Matters” is  a meditator’s fantasy come to life. Much as the lyrics are fantastic, I suspect for most casual listeners nothing matters except for that phrase, “nothing else matters.”  If the rest of the song were gibberish, it would still be an incredible experience to imagine nothing else mattering, a point of focus and importance so deep and great it annihilates all alternatives in our mind.

This is arguably the ideal of meditative practices — whatever is there in front of you, if nothing else matters you’re practically enlightened.

Zen ideals aside, the more modern a  society, the more things there are that vie for your attention and affection, the harder it is to imagine only one thing having ultimate importance.

If you’re insanely in love, your partner matters to you- but even then,  so do the bills, your job, a thousand things that happened to you, ten thousand that might yet happen to you. We would all love for nothing else to matter, regardless of what it is that we’re focused on.
